Who doesn’t love a dramatic transformation?

This garden today is totally unrecognisable from when we first began, swipe to the end for the before photos!

Lots of sloping lawn, paving that was lifting from tree roots, no useable space, water pooling and no privacy meant the backyard was severely under utilised.

During the transformation of this garden, absolutely nothing went to waste creating this eclectic space.

Natural limestone rocks from an existing wall were pulled apart and relaid to create a beautiful looking drystone retaining wall full of character and patina.

The sad looking old red bricks were pulled up and laid “on-edge” in a 45 degree herringbone pattern to create a rustic, yet almost Mediterranean looking patio area perfect for entertaining.

The contrast between the Corten steel elements and white limestone gravel gives the space an earthy, rustic vibe.

A set of symmetrical, wide and deep steps wrap around the central retaining wall, which can you believe is actually made from concrete sleepers painted with a Corten effect paint.

A custom water spout sits proudly, flowing into a hand spun copper dish. Water droplets gently cascading over the lip into a reservoir filled with river stones, surrounded by lush and colourful native planting.

Wide gravel steps lead up to the viewing deck at the rear boundary, nestled strategically under the canopy of a tree, that just so happens to have an awesome view of the Derwent river!

An eclectic mix of Australian natives, perennials and succulents tie the garden together nicely and we absolutely can’t wait to see how the garden matures in the years to come.
